A popular traditional Thai Game

Thailand is well known for its traditional sports. Sports enthusiasts from different corners of the world visit this Southeast Asian country to get a deep insight of the sport scene of this country. There are a few well known traditional sports in Thailand that are popular in this country since ages. Some of these games are so popular that their popularity has crossed the geographical boundaries and these sports have secured their position among the favorite sports of the neighboring nations. Sepak Tarkaw is one such amazing traditional Thai sport. The game is several centuries old and is also popular in neighboring countries like Malaysia. 

Sepak Tarkaw which is also known as Tarkaw is a game that has similarities with volleyball and net football. In Sepak Tarkaw the players are allowed to use both hands and feet. Touching the ball with head, knee and chest are also permitted in this game. Though Sepak Tarkaw has some similarities in the rules with volleyball, the ball used in this game is different. Rattan ball, a light weight ball is used in this game.

The rules of Sepak Tarkaw are also different from country to country. It is also called under different names in different regions of Thailand and its neighboring countries. The game of sepak tarkaw is highly interesting. If even you do not know the rules of the game, you will find it exciting. The game includes techniques of volleyball, net football, gymnastics and even a little kung fu. 

Sepak Tarkaw, a traditional Thai sports is several centuries old. Though the sports historians cannot provide an exact date and time of the origin of Sepak Tarkaw, they have got ample evidence that the game was popular since 1400s. 

Thus Sepak tarkaw is an ancient Thai sport which has rose to popularity several centuries ago and is popular till date.
